Thing 30: And the fat lady sings!

So, the end is here.

One benefit to my taking this course : a customer came in asking for information on starting a blog. I was able to sit him down and show him. A blogging instruction book was available for him to take home , but it was neat to be able get him started.

Plus, sprinkling the fun stuff throughout the course might help keep the non techies attention. Playing with the pictures, ex. image generators and Flcker, got a lot of people back in the race. So, if they were earlier in the course, it would have kept them moving along.

Thing 29: Finishing up

Yeah! I think if we'd started with making the blog, and adding some easy fun stuff, I might have stuck closer to the schedule. I'm comfortable with the RSS feeds, UTube is fun and easy, Library Thing is neat. I'm not much into the Flcker, except some of the travel mashups. I love some of the techno games and gizmo's, like http://webneko.net/?kuramecha (check out the kitty in the corner:) It's too much work to keep up a MySpace and Blogger.

I enjoyed skimming through the other participant's blogs. Dark, light, polka-dots...something for everyone. It's easy to tell who's had fun with it!

Thing 28: Rollyo

Man, Rollyo is work. I really struggled with it. But, I finally got it on my sidebar. Not really sure if it's worth the trouble.

Thing 26: Image Generator

This thing gave me problems . I clicked the links of all the sites mentioned on thing 26, but many were paid sites, or tasteless sites, or nothing I'd use. I can see where other might like playing with images, but I'm just not into it.

Thing 27: Library Thing

Library Thing is fun. It's too bad they only had 200 items on the free account, but I guess you could have a new account for each genre!

Thing 25: Exploring Podcast Sites

Denver Public Library has some cute kid's storytime podcasts. I listened to In the Rain With Baby Duck. Copyright 1995 by Amy Hest. The reading was professional sounding. Great idea to have them available on their website.

iTunes is good enough, I guess, but their browsing area is tedious to me. I like the sites that give me some ideas new, free streams that are out there. I plan on trying out Yahoo!'s podcast. That's why I like the RSS feed, gives me a taste of what's out there on the web!

Thing 24: Podcasts

We've been playing with iTunes at home. We listen to Garrison Keillor do the "Writer's Almanac" and of course "HotforWords" videos. Still working out how to do all the searches, but lots available. Cool!

Thing 22: Flcker Mashups &Toys

Yahoo's Travel Planner is fun way to keep a log of your trip and share trip plans and pictures with others. Cool way to find ideas for trips.

Thing 21: Tagging on Flcker

Tags help in locating a photo or picture. Tags may denote location, content, method of production, type of camera, or other type of catagory the owner might choose. With the ability to place 75 different tags on one item, the same picture can be found by lots of different searches.

Thing 20: Flcker exploration

Exploring Flcker was interesting and I was able to set up an account and download a picture. I hadn't realized I couldn't edit the entry once it arrived on my blog. So, I guess it's not really here, just a link. I can see I could find lots to do on the sight if I spent some time playing around there.

Thing 23: UTube

I tried 3 times to compose on the same post by the video and each time both disappeared. Not sure what I doing wrong, so I'll compose on a 2nd post.

UTube has a lot to offer. I enjoy surfing the 100 most popular videos on my RSS feed. The hotforwords videos are a favorite. Pimped up etamology.

This video has music, anime and feeling!

Thing 23: UTube

Thing 19: Explore any site

I checked out both Arcaplay.com arcaplay.com and games2web.com. On Arcaplay, it was easier to see which games were fun to play, the links came up quickly, and I enjoyed it. Games2web made it easy to add games you like on to your MySpace, so I can see people using it.

It's neat to see that there is a Web 2.0 Award list.

Thing 18: Technorati

So, people can tag search blogs like you key word search catalogs. I can see where the what's popular page would be popular.

Thing 17: Tagging and Delicious

So, I read up on the tagging and listed to some of the OPAL presentation on Delicious. A few months ago, I opened a Delicious account and when someone mentions a neat new cite I add it on. With biography season upon us, someone mentioned http://www.bibme.org/. Haven't really given it a run yet.

I sorta like the tagging idea. Still playing with it.
